Exploring geographical exploration
The Abbey Gate College Geography Club meet once a week and offers pupils the opportunity to explore geographical topics that are in the news, as well as to engage in activities outside the core curriculum, such as making their own tornado in a bottle or creating an edible volcano.
It also allows greater access to Geographical Information Systems (GIS) as pupils can electronically build their own earthquake proof town and simulate an earthquake. Pupils can engage in a game to manage all stages of production for McDonalds from clearing a forest for the crops and cattle, to coping with a publicity crisis.
Geography club pupils manage the Geography in the news notice board, choosing suitable stories to display. When competitions arise, pupils have the opportunity to apply.
