Our Senior School Sports Day took place on Wednesday 29th of June, under what can only be described as ‘changeable and challenging’ weather conditions.
Almost as soon as the first shot of the starter’s pistol was fired – down came the deluge! The pupils competed courageously in difficult conditions, at times races were combined to ensure we could get through all scheduled events as the weather worsened.
For the first time in three years, families of pupils were able to attend, and they were also open to the elements (with many umbrellas employed!).
A wonderful afternoon tea was provided by our catering partner, Chartwell’s Independent, served by our very helpful PTFA. This included a cream tea, brownies and freshly prepared smoothies for the competitors.
In true Abbey Gate style, everyone saw the humour in the day and simply got on and stuck into their races, and the rousing supporters on the sidelines added to the sense of camaraderie and community – even the neighbouring cattle seemed to be cheering on the relays as they ambled through the countryside next to the College playing fields!
While there were many outstanding performances from pupils (and some staff!), watching the engagement and participation from people across our College community come together was a true example of the Abbey Gate College spirit!
