Year 10 pupil, Keira Meadows recently raced for Snowsports England alongside hundreds of the country’s most talented skiers at the 24th English Alpine Championships.
The Championships kicked off on Saturday evening with a parade of all participating British Clubs and athletes through the town. A welcome address by the Mayor was given in the main square and an Olympic style flame lit.
Training took place every day, with two ski race coaches from Runcorn Snowsports race club supporting Keira and 3 other skiers. Monday saw Keira turn out two solid performances in the highly competitive Girls U16 Slalom race, coming in the top 40 out of a field of 60.
On Thursday, in the Girls U16 GS Championships Keira raced hard in her first run with an impressive time but a small mistake at one of the gates, causing her to crash out, saw her disqualified which was very disappointing as, under the FIS rules she was not allowed a second run. Still, a fantastic experience and she’ll be back next year to better her performance.
