Junior Music Festival

The third Junior Music Festival took place in February and saw 38 children performing a broad variety of styles of music, as solos or in ensembles, in eight classes through the day.

The Festival provides an opportunity for the children to see the wonderful standard of musicianship that is achieved by pupils learning individual instruments at Abbey Gate College.

The competition was adjudicated by Head of Music at Abbey Gate College, Mr Andrews, who was very impressed by the musicality shown by the young musicians.

The music was varied and interesting, with a wide spectrum of genres from Gaelic melodies, through classical pieces and show tunes, to hard rock!

The winner was Christian Gregory (J6) who gained 91 / 100 for the beautiful song, ‘The Lamb’ by Frederick Spindler.

Parents and friends came to support the talented youngsters and enjoyed a thoroughly uplifting day.

Mrs Dukes said: “The Junior Music Festival was a wonderful day. It is always uplifting to hear young musicians playing and singing, and we are particularly proud of our pupils' supportive and encouraging attitude to one another. Special congratulations go to Christian Gregory, a worthy winner. Bravo, children!”
