The Under 16 football team made up of Year 10 and Year 11 pupils remained unbeaten throughout a 12 team tournament to deservedly win the competition. The large turnout of teams and nearly 150 boys enjoying three near perfect grass pitches plus the all-weather pitch allowed for numerous fixtures during the round-robin group stages.
The first game for Abbey Gate eventually turned out to be their hardest as Bridgewater continually attacked but Harvey Solomon's trickery in the box saw him fouled and the resultant penalty from Ewan Mackay turned out to be the winning goal, 1-0. The College started to play more flowing football in beating Cundall Manor 2-0. Game three proved to be more comfortable as St. David's were soundly beaten 4-0 meaning the team progressed as winners of the most competitive group.
The 3 team play offs saw a really competitive game against Hipperholme where Luca Villano displayed composure under pressure for 2 close range strikes despite a late fight back and a consolation goal for the opposition. The final game against Beech House saw a confident and vibrant display of passing football as goals from Ewan Mackay and Luca Villano wrapped up an unbeaten afternoon.
The teams' strength throughout meant the strong supporting cast from the rest of the squad contributed to a highly enjoyable afternoon of entertaining football.
