Abbey Gate College Infant & Junior School are celebrating the success of their annual Business and Enterprise Programme.

This year the scheme raised over £650 which will be used by current pupils to purchase a legacy gift for future generations.

The programme gives Year 6 pupils an insight into how business works and helps them to build skills for the future, such as team working, problem solving and creativity.

Each team decides on the products they are creating, marketing and selling, and is then given a stall to sell their products to attempt to make a profit.

Billy Reynolds, Henry West, Phoebe Gartside and Poppy Rayner were members of the winning team, ‘Sensational Treats’ who sold handmade keyrings and marshmallow kebabs. Their concept included issuing free raffle tickets with every purchase to entice return visits to their stall! The team raised £151, with a startup cost of just £20.

The cup and medals, sponsored by Gas Safe Europe Ltd, were presented to the winning team by managing director and current parent, John Stones.

Mr Stones said: “It’s fantastic to see the children learning essential skills that will help them to succeed both at school and beyond.”

Teacher and Academic Lead, Mrs Jones said: “The pupils have worked incredibly hard over the past few months. They pitched their initial ideas in the style of Dragon’s Den; surveyed the market through designing questionnaires for fellow pupils; created brand logos for advertising and worked out product pricing to maximise profit. The programme was such a success most stalls sold out!”
