Last weekend, under frosty conditions and an early start for the pitch inspection, our home game v St Bedes was able to go ahead. The Year 7 and 8 combined team gave performances to be proud of despite a 6-1 defeat, with several students in their debut in the squad.
In a reverse fixture at the same time, our Year 9 and 10 players travelled to frosty St Bedes south of Manchester. As the game kicked off, the white grass was replaced by a lush, if initially slightly slushy, green pitch and both teams enjoyed well contested games.
The Year 10 team were slow to start and were down 2 goals early in the match before Louis W produced a side foot finish following great play from Charlie C, and reduced the deficit.
Although the squad continued to press the opposition with outstanding play from Harry S midfield and important saves from Jeremy F, an equaliser evaded our players despite their valiant efforts.
Our Year 9 team also played with incredible determination against the talented opposition from St Bedes. Outstanding stops were made throughout, with Toby C in goal, and the team worked cohesively and with conviction in defence.
The final 8-2 defeat doesn’t reflect the effort and endeavours of each and every player – the two goals scored were just rewards.
Well done to all, and thanks to our staff and to St Bedes.
