Bishops Heber v Abbey Gate College
Mr Bailey has provided the following match report from the match on Saturday 28th January:
“Year 9 boys placed in the quarter final of the Cheshire Cup away at Bishops Heber.
The game started well for Abbey Gate College and early pressure soon told as Harry S opened with a super finish. Despite good opportunities for us, Heber scored twice in the first half to take the lead. Brilliant close work from Beau W created an equaliser for Luis W, finishing powerfully. Charlie Co then raced clear of the Heber defence to turn the match around for a 3-2 Abbey Gate College lead at half time. Ollie F had an excellent first half dominating the middle of the pitch.
The College squad started the second half with great application and tempo. A great run and second goal from Charlie Co saw Abbey Gate College lead 4-2. On a muddy and heavy pitch, our defence was put under tremendous pressure, with Seb H in particular proving to be too strong for the opposition. Heber did score late in the game to bring the game to 4-3. With the last kick of the match, a free kick from outside the box saw Heber claw themselves back to 4-4.
The Abbey Gate College boys did not let their heads drop. In the first period of extra time, Harry S won a free kick, and from 25 yards, he dispatched the ball into the top right corner for a 5-4 lead. Great organisation of the defence and solid goalkeeping hands from Jeremy F saw the boys hold on for a fantastic away day win.
In addition to those mentioned, the team benefitted from effort and commitment throughout the squad including Gabe G, Alex H, Bryce C, Pablo Stanley L, Tom P, Charlie Ca and Howie R.”
Final score: Bishops Heber 4 – 5 Abbey Gate College
Well done boys! The semi-final awaits.
