Echoing the atmosphere at Abbey Gate College last week, when students received their A Level results, the mood at the College today has been equally as celebratory as students eagerly opened their GCSE results.
These included about one fifth of the grades at the very highest level of 9 and 8, and more than three quarters were strong passes at grade 5 and above. In addition to these really pleasing headlines, so many students are celebrating excellent, individual successes, which are well beyond personal projections at a national level – for some students, two grades higher in each subject.
Particularly impressive value-added include Ed B (eight 9, two 8); Aidan C (eight 9, one 8 and two 7); Milo H (seven 9, two 8, one 7 and one 6); Seb R (seven 9 and three 8), Izzy D (five 9, three 8, and one 7) and Hugh P (five 9, two 8 and three 7).
Interestingly, several of these students have attended Abbey Gate College from the Infant and Junior School through to the end of Year 11!
The Head, Mr Jenkinson, said: “I am delighted that, for this year group as whole, so much hard work and diligent learning, alongside the care and commitment of their teachers, have been rewarded by some excellent outcomes. We have such a diversity of talents and interests among these young people, and I am proud that the academic extension opportunities we offer – such as Statistics GCSE and the additional Higher Project Qualification – have done equally well.“
We very much look forward to welcoming our students back shortly, as they embark upon the next stage of their journey through our Sixth Form, where they will be the first year group to benefit from the academic and personal rigour of the College’s new Diploma programme, built around A levels and additional qualifications and life-skills.
