Abbey Gate College Hosts The First Cheshire Schools’ Sustainability Conference
Published on 1st December 2023
Last Friday we were delighted to host the first, of what we hope to be many, Cheshire Schools’ Sustainability Conference at Abbey Gate College.
The invited schools (Christleton high School, Chester International School and Neston High School) gave presentations on efforts and projects that they are currently working on in school and discussions took place around aspirations for future projects.
The students who attended were inspired by our guest speaker, Mr Link from Neston High School) and his plastic project whereby he collects, shreds, heats and then moulds waste plastic into useful items – combs, bowls, key rings, etc.
Plans are already underway to host our second conference. We are aiming to include more schools and also make the conference more hands-on so that the students can participate in workshop activities.
If any parents have skills that they can offer in this respect, then we would be really keen to utilise your expertise.
Please keep sending plastic bottle tops in. If we can collect enough we are going to attempt our own plastic workshop with our students in school. We are also still collecting batteries for our recycling scheme so again, please keep sending them into school to be placed in our battery boxes around the school site.
The Sustainability Conference was a truly inspiring event, and it was a pleasure to welcome our visitors to our College. Lively conversations between students and teachers alike could be heard as they mixed over a morning tea of hot chocolate and biscuits made by some of our students.
