Under 9s Football Team Take Part in the ISA Cup Finals

The U9 football team concluded their successful first season together, playing in the finals of the ISA U9 Cup.

The final four teams of this long competition met in terrible weather conditions; at one point the rain was so heavy the players were barely visible!

The first game was the semi-final against a talented Grange team, but that did not stop Alfie scoring a wonderful goal, direct from a corner, to make it 1 - 0.  On the whistle of half time The Grange pulled one back. The second half was very different and The Grange got their passing game together, which we struggled to defend against. The Grange were eventual winners, defeating us 5-1.

So we embarked on the 3rd/4th playoff against Huddersfield Grammar and what a game! We were 3 - 0 up by half time, and looking very composed and comfortable. In the second half, they made some changes and what a difference they made! 3 - 3 at full time and extra time beckoned. Even an extra five minutes could not separate the two teams which meant dreaded penalties. Abbey Gate College chose to kick first and after the 3 kicks were taken by each team it was 2 - 2! After a very gruelling game ending in sudden death, we eventually lost 5 - 4 on penalties. Despite the result, our team played tremendously well and represented the College wonderfully throughout.

Well done to The Grange who won the competition.
