Well, talk about a game of two halves! After 2 minutes, we found ourselves 10 - 0 down; Scarisbrick using the effective tactic of 'give it to the tall lad' who ploughed through our defences like they were not there! This was going to be a long day...
Luckily, this was not the case and we managed to regroup and put in some strong challenges to peg them back. However, by the end of the first half the score was 20 - 0!
After a half time huddle, a discussion about teamwork and supporting each other, the second half began with a definite edge towards our boys: we were fighting back and really took the game to Scarisbrick. A lovely breakaway try from Oliver gave us real momentum. Manuel put in a try-saving tackle worthy of any professional - so much so, that the referee stopped the game and awarded him a housepoint - you do not see that very often!
We continued to push Scarisbrick back with James superb in the ruck, leading by example. Wils did manage to get the ball over the line but it was disallowed due to an infringement in the build up. With great control, Wils stayed focussed on the restart, powered through, ripped the ball fairly from their defence and flew over the line for the most dramatic of tries! But for a very late try from Scarisbrick, on the final whistle, we would have at least won the second half 1 - 0!
This was a great example of what you can achieve when you work and support each other, as a team. Notable performances were from Jack and Luca O'keeffe, who were immense in the tackle, but the Man of the Match had to go to Wils for keeping his head and playing with such steel and determination. Well done boys!
