Rugby Match Report: 1st XV Rugby vs Bury Grammar School

Abbey Gate travelled over to Bury on a cold and wet morning with a very depleted but enthusiastic squad. The hosts were good enough to agree to a 9 a side game that was very close and competitive in the first half with the College ahead 5 tries to 4.

The second half saw the boys play with more fluency and cohesion in atrocious conditions and their fitness started to tell as the opposition tired. Many tries were scored but the pick of the bunch was the last try.

The try started close to the Abbey Gate try line but quick passing from the ruck saw play sweep up the left wing. As the opposition’s defence regrouped the ball went through the hands from left to right then back again for a fantastic team score in the left corner. This was an impressive run out for the squad and the best possible practice for the national ISA 7s tournament in March.

Final Score:

Abbey Gate College - 67
Bury Grammar School - 22
