The Abbey Gate College Equestrian Squad was out in force this weekend, with 10 riders competing over two days at the National Schools Equestrian Association qualifiers at Southview, where they were up against 11 other schools from all over the North West.
Saturday was the Jumping with Style competition, where the younger team of Year 8s Iyla Gallacher and Mollie Pickering and Year 7s Isodore Ramsey Smith and Rufus Taylor came a very creditable 3rd in the 70cm, but just missed out in the 80cm.
The older team of Abbey Rimmer, Mary Goodridge, Ellie Studley and Henry Wilcox were unlucky in the 90cm, but with a little horse swapping managed a fantastic 2nd in the 1m class, taking them through to the National Championships in October.
On Sunday it was Show Jumping, where again our young team of Iyla, Mollie, Isodore and this time with Jodie Bennett stormed to a win in the 70cm class and a 2nd place in the 80cm, both results qualifying them for the Nationals in October. The 2nd team of Ellie Studley, Ollie Bennett and Rufus Tayler were not so lucky this time, but all rode well.
We also had Henry Wilcox competing in the 90cm and 1m classes on Sunday, where he did a great job as an individual.
With these results added to our win at the Dressage in March, the competitors qualified in all 3 disciplines to represent Abbey Gate College at the NSEA National Championships in Buckinghamshire in October, which is an exceptional performance for any school.
