Hockey - Chester & District Tournament

The same team that played Tarporley the week before, (made up of Year 10 pupils, plus Fiona and Julia Parker from Year 11), entered the Chester and District Tournament at County Offices, Chester and played some exceptional hockey. The first team they played, Bishop Heber, were very strong and led a coordinated attack on the Abbey Gate goal. Several minutes went by, where no one scored,... read more

Hockey v Tarporley

With a last minute fill in at Goal Keeper, by the very helpful Lauren Norbury, we headed off to Tarporley. The girls started strongly and within minutes of the starting whistle had scored, with the ball sneaking over the line. Unfortunately minutes later, Tarporley picked up their game and evened out the score at 1-1. With that score, came many more, (6 to be precise) as the Abbey Gate girls... read more

ISFA Shield Under 16 - College through to the next round

Rossall School 2 - 7 Abbey Gate College An emphatic win does not reflect how close this game was for a long period of the first half. Abbey Gate were quick out of the blocks and Will Smith latched onto a loose ball to rifle home after only 2 minutes. Despite creating more chances, it was Rossall who equalised with a slick move after 25 minutes. The defining moment was when a... read more

Football-Chester Cup - AGC 1 Blacon 4

The College got off to the worse possible start with slack defending allowing Blacon to take the lead after 2 minutes. The boys then rallied and dominated play for 20 minutes but missed some gilt edged chances to draw level. They were made to pay when a stunning... read more

Football - 1st XI v Helsby

This was not a good day at the office!  The team started well and played their usual brand of passing football and it was surely a matter of time before they took the lead.  However, the team went into half time 1-0 down and not quite sure how they came to be in this position.  A few tactical switches at the break seemed to be working yet once again a Helsby break away led to a goa... read more

Hockey - AGC v Tarporley

The girls hockey team visited Tarporley with a mixed group of Year 9 and 10 players, plus guest appearances from Year 8 pupils Morgan Cox and Amelia Percival. Morgan played in goal for the whole game, providing a strong last line of defence, whilst Amelia played up front, helping Ellisha Percival and Gabby Parker attack the goal. The Tarporley girls seemed to have a well-oiled team,... read more

Netball v Hulme Hall - Played 2 Won 2

On a cold and wet October evening, Abbey Gate faced opponents Hulme Hall. With the Year 9 squad taking to the court to commence the matches, Abbey Gate looked strong from the first centre pass, however it was Hulme Hall who were first to score. Keeping control of the game and playing at our own pace Abbey Gate soon took the lead with the half time score at 5-3. No changes were made at half time... read more
