In March, four of our Abbey Gate College pupils took part in the Artemis Interschool Ski Challenge 2017, a two-day competition in Pila, Italy, with many international schools taking part.
There were a number of categories, Under 10 Girls which Phoebe Gartside was participating in and Under 12 Girls which Keira Meadows was participating in with a total of 58 racers. There were 2 timed runs and the best time was selected. It was an icy course to start which then turned very slushy with the warm weather and a number of racers fell increasing the tension for all.
The Under 10’s were racing first and Phoebe came 22nd out of 25 and Keira Meadows came 23rd out of 37. On a different course in the Under 14 category Matthew Morris was racing and came 50th out of 63 and Toby Goodridge was on a different run in the U16 category coming 21st out of 55.
On the second day of the competition, the conditions were pretty much the same as the previous day, sunny and warm. The course was set on a different piste with the Stubby Slalom for Keira and Phoebe. The race got underway with the Under 12s racing first. Keira came a very credible 24th and Phoebe 20th after a first run crash. The boys also came in well placed in their categories.
All represented Abbey Gate College with pride and passion and it was an enjoyable and memorable experience for them all. Their coach commented on how well they had all competed against some very tough competition and that they should be very proud of their achievements.
