Naomi Craig, who is a Year 9 pupil at the College, is making great strides in the field of Modern Pentathlon.
Currently Naomi is a Youth B national athlete in the event that requires expertise in 5 disciplines; fencing, swimming, show jumping and the combined event which is running and pistol shooting. Youth B compete in all disciplines but only do 3 when competing abroad, so it becomes a triathlon- swimming, and the combined event which is running and pistol shooting. She has also been selected to complete at Youth A level which then includes fencing.
As a former Welsh National swimming champion, Naomi is currently ranked 2nd nationally in the Youth B category at Modern Pentathlon and her first major competition for Team GB will be the European Championships in Poland in August. In addition Naomi has been selected to train with the GB Talent Team and attends Hartpury College in Gloucester for extra weekend training on selective weekends.
In all she trains for about 15-20 hours per week, swimming at Chester University, fencing at the Northgate Arena, running at West Cheshire Athletic Club and shooting at the Wrexham Shooting Club.
As the current number 2 in the country, Naomi is hoping to emulate her cousin, Nick Woodbridge, who has been selected to represent Team GB at the Olympics (Modern Pentathlon) and the family will all be going to watch him compete on 11th August.
We wish both Naomi and Nick all the best with the events they have coming up in this great summer of sport.
