Ellesmere College Football Offers End-Of-Season Optimism for the Future

The Y7 team traveled to Ellesmere on an ideal morning for football and ran out comfortable winners against strong opponent and confidence was high! Ellesmere made an incisive start crossing from the right for a cool side footed finish within 3 minutes. The College team responded by laying siege to the Ellesmere goal and soon Harry Green levelled with a classy swivel and turn for the equaliser. Despite further pressure the home team defended well and just before half time Jack Scaife slotted home a rebound for a half time lead 1-2.

With the slope to our advantage the quality of passing improved but despite valiant efforts  territorial supremacy was not converted into a vital third goal. Christian Lewin made a fantastic save form an Ellesmere forwards close range volley to protect the lead. Finally a rasping free kick form Dan Pittard- Wheeler was too hot for the keeper to handle and gave the College an all important third goal.

An impressive display was rounded off by when an Alex Stewart run and left  wing cross was slotted home at the far post by, the excellent on the day, Joe Bowden.

An important team building exercise when the fluency in play and understanding improved as the game went on. The team have great potential and Thursday's cup semi final is another exciting challenge to end a very successful season.
